It was the last day to wait for him in the office. He used
to sit on the chair besides me. So, unless he was there, I used to keep on waiting
for him.
After almost four months of togetherness, he had to depart.
Although I was already aware of the fact and had prepared myself enough, the
final moment almost took my breath away and I just could not control my tears.
He was such an amazing colleague and more than that he was a
Friend. His last day in the office was indeed a memorable one for me. Since
morning, he did so many things just to make me smile, as my tears had no end.
My desktop was not working well and I was in no mood to talk to the man who
could make it work well. So, he called him up and my system was repaired. He
knows how sadu I am.
During the afternoon, he suddenly said- "I have got a
surprise for you."
Me (with my eyes wide open)- "What? Jaldi batao."
He (pointing the finger towards his bag)- "isme
hai."
Me- "jaldi dikhao naa."
He brought out a box and put it in front of me. Without
wasting any time, I immediately opened it and there it was. .
"Besan ke laddoo"- I almost shouted.
"SSsssshhhhh! You know I don't share meetha with
everyone. Shona got it for me. Chupchaap se khao or shor mat
machaao"- he insisted.
I just controlled my emotions and quickly grabbed one in my
hand and started enjoying its sweetness. Thereafter, while others were having
their lunch; our boss called both of us for a meeting.
After the meeting was over, two of us had our lunch. Later,
we started working again. It happened after so long that we worked with the
same enthusiasm we used to do during our initial days in the office. We enjoyed
that madness after a long time and accomplished the task soon.
Time was running that day. I just could not realize when it
was 6' o clock, the time to leave. I saw him bidding goodbye to all the people
in the office. My heart started beating faster and once more my tears were just
out of control. While we were approaching the gate, he was consoling me.
"Mai zinda hoon"- he said bursting into laughter.
"Shut Up" - I said.
"Okay, tumhe ice cream khaani thi naa. Chalo chalte
hain meethi chatto."- he tried to remind me my own wish.
We came out. I wiped away my tears and we went straight to
the ice-cream stall. He has this habit of trying a new flavor every time. And,
as usual I wanted my favorite chocolate cone which was not at all available.
Nevertheless, somehow we managed to get two ice- creams.
Now, we started walking towards the metro station. That
evening, we took the road we didn't walk on since months. We were enjoying each
and every moment. For me, it was all bliss. I had no idea when I will be
enjoying another ice-cream with him in this life. At least, probably never on
that road again.
We reached the metro station and there he encountered this
man who was selling wallets. He remembered that I want one for my father. He
took me there and started looking for the best one. He saw each and every one
of them but I didn't find any of them good enough.
"Let's go then."- he said in a meek voice.
"Don't worry. I will find one."- I told him.
"Jaate-jaate jitna kar sakta hoon, utna to karu tumhare
liye. Tum kitni achhi ho."- he emphasized.
"Pagal ho tum"- I smiled.
Within few minutes, we were at the platform. Soon, we
boarded the metro and I reached my destination, Yamuna Bank.
"Goodbye"- I said, shaking hands with him.
He smiled and again my eyes were in tears, although I was
smiling too.
"Nooooooo, not again"- he said.
"No, I won't"- I promised.
